Are They Twins?

The girls HATE this question (supposedly) but they do favor each other...especially when Indie straightens her hair and wears Ray's clothes (or vice versa.)

Can you tell which is which?

Indie's Day!

Yesterday was Indie's 9th birthday! As I reminded her over and over, I just really can't believe it's been 9 years!

Starting Monday afternoon, I started talking about what we were doing 9 years before. I could tell she liked hearing the little details of what was going on back then. She chuckled as she had a realization of how young Ray really was! When it became a tangible thought that Ray was actually younger than her little cousins, Indie almost couldn't believe it.

I told her of how Henry and I were watching a rented movie (Red Square - it did not catch my attention and I don't remember anything except that it starred Richard Gere) when we decided it was time to head to the hospital. We took Ray to a friend's house, a friend she can't even remember (they have lived outside of AL for the last several years) and excitedly went to the hospital to have a baby!

**Indie, you are a precious joy in our lives. You have always been the smiling-est of children we've ever known. Your fun-loving spirit always keeps the house in a silly mood (even though we sometimes need it to be serious!) and you need to know that this is DEFINITELY a gift from God. There is no doubt your Heavenly Father has huge plans for you and we can't wait to see how God continues to guide your life. You encourage us with your natural love of people and the way your friendly approach to life is such a blessing to everyone in range of your gorgeous smile.

You really are a beauty inside and out. You have a strong maternal instinct and are such a dear blessing as you help take care of your brothers. I honestly appreciate all the ways you step in to help me. You make things much easier for me and I am so glad I can count on you to be a loving helper.

I hope you will continue enjoying this busy summer we are in and will keep playing ball in such a fantastic fashion. You're a strong player and we're very proud of you. We're sorry the crazy ball season has prevented us from doing anything super-big for your birthday but you know we're not done celebrating yet!

WE LOVE YOU! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, INDIE!

1 Peter 1:6-9 NLT So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you have to endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.

You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy. The reward for trusting him will be the salvation of your souls.

After 3 Months...

I guess I'm finally ready to share some pictures from Captain's birthday!
I better get TONS of comments on this! It's taking a lot of courage to put THIS much out there for y'all to see! In fact, I'd love to have the number of comments equal the number of views so if you watch this, PLEASE comment - just to let me know who saw it, OK?

Mother's Day 07

Hope it was a great day for everyone!

Special prayers for those who are yearning to be a Mom but have not received the desired answer from God about that yet. I know today is a tough day for those of you struggling with this and I just want you to know I am remembering you...

I'm also remembering those who have lost children and are feeling that extra-heaviness in their hearts today. I think of you often...

And to my Mother and Mother-in-Law, I know you have a place of sadness in your hearts too as you are missing your Moms today. Granny and Grandmother were beautiful, precious women and I miss them, too.

Thank you to Mom and MeMe for all that you have done for me and Henry and the kids. We love you very much!

This May Day Is RAY DAY!

Happy Birthday to my little Ray of sunshine :)

11 years ago, from right now, I was getting into the groove of hospital labor. I had seen the midwife on May 6th for a 2:00 appointment and by 4:00 that afternoon, I knew that it was almost time.

I called Henry at work and told him there was no need to rush home but not to dilly-dally when he got off at 5:00. We didn't want to just sit around doing nothing so we drove up to Shoney's for supper. I don't know why Shoney's, but that's where we went and enjoyed our last pre-kid family meal. We saw a friend from school (Cassie F for those who remember her) and she asked, "When are you due?" and I answered, "Well, I think I'm actually in early labor now!" I think it weirded her out!

At 10:00 that night, I rationalized, "We should go ahead and call our family and go to the hospital. It'd be easier to tell everyone now before they all go to sleep for the night."

So we called everyone and headed towards B South Hospital. Most of the family arrived the same time we did! Being the first child born on both mine and Henry's sides of the family, EVERYONE was as giddy with excitement as we were!

So I went through all the normal checking-into-the-hospital things and got hooked up in the bed. Since my water wasn't broken, I was free to get up and go to the bathroom as needed but at all other times, I was required to be in bed and hooked up to the monitors.

Of course, I didn't know NEARLY what I know now and was 100% fine with all routines. And because my contractions were pretty regular, I was pretty much left alone once we got situated. I think they were just gonna let me labor the best i could through the night and then handle any possible delays in progression when the sun rose.

THANkFULLY, Ray kept moving down her pathway. Contractions were pretty regular and somewhat painful but I was able to get into a trance-like state and handle them. I remember staring at cross-sections of the white panel ceiling during each contraction. I also focused on breathing and as the pains got stronger, i would work harder at keeping my inhales equal with my exhales. That was the worst thing I did and as contractions got closer and closer, I began to hyperventilate. It was awful. Really awful. My face and hands were tingly and I had to have a paper bag to breathe into. When I got to the serious stages of labor, I had to really focus on handling the contractions and I had to have someone hold the paper bag over my nose and mouth until the contraction was over. That little pattern of breathing into a bag during each contraction really helped a bunch.

I also remember my Mom rubbing my feet and legs a little bit because they had some tingling sensations, too. And as things got more obvious that a baby was on her way, Henry started fiddling around with cameras and tripods. He had that nervous activity thing going on but also did a good job with helping me through the contractions. I think he liked being able to hold the bag ofr me because it gave him something productive to do.

A little before 8AM on the 7th, the midwife came in to check me and little did I know, go outside and tell my waiting family that it would be a while before there was any baby.

So breakfast became the topic of ocnversation. I remember people coming in and out of my room asking Henry what he wanted and that they were all running out to get some breakfast. I remember being hungry and mad that they were talking about food in front of me!

Mom and Dad went downstairs and wanted to speak to a friend who works at the hospital and knew he should be on his way in since it was right at 8AM. As they were getting off the elevator to find their friend on the 1st floor, before going to get breakfast, they were told by a lady at the desk that they needed to get back upstairs because their grandbaby was about to be born.

Since the message came via the hospital staff who said Mr. Trippe (Henry's Dad) was calling, my parents thought it was a joke. Mr. Trippe is quite the joker and if he had thought of it, he probably would have played this little prank. It wasn't a prank, though! After my midwife had checked me and left to tell everyone that a baby was a long ways away, the nurses helped me roll over in the bed to get some rest.

That roll made family history!

As I moved from my back to my left side, there was a loud POP and a little head receiving a crown :)

Ray was born at 8:11 AM after just 3 little-ish pushes!

This birth experience was such an awesome one that I started thinking about how I could share with pregnant Moms that not EVERY birth experience is a horror story. Good labors and births are totally possible! Even natural ones!

Even though it took me a little while to become a doula and eventually a homebirth advocate, it was definitely this experience that got me started thinking.

And it was this BABY that got me realizing that being a Mom is definitely one of the greatest blessings in the world and that I am SO HAPPY with this calling.

Ray, you are a precious jewel and I just love you to bits! You will always be that special introduction to the best part of my life...being a Mom! You are beautiful and oh-so-smart, and encourage me with your spirit and love of the Lord! I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU!

Psalm 20
1 In times of trouble, may the Lord answer your cry.
May the name of the God of Jacob keep you safe from all harm.
2 May he send you help from his sanctuary
and strengthen you from Jerusalem.
3 May he remember all your gifts
and look favorably on your burnt offerings.
Interlude

4 May he grant your heart’s desires
and make all your plans succeed.
5 May we shout for joy when we hear of your victory
and raise a victory banner in the name of our God.
May the Lord answer all your prayers.

Motivated

Honestly, I was motivated to write this post because of watching American Idol tonight. It was a GREAT show!! I REALLY hope the final two end up being Jordin and the obvious winner, Melinda, but after Phil and Blake's excellent performances tonight, I would hate to see them say goodbye. I really hope it's Chris' week but this is the week that two will go so I think the other will be Phil. He did a really nice job tonight but I believe his song choice was probably a little too foreshadowing. I'm afraid he'll go down in a blaze of glory...

Melinda -- oh my goodness, she's just awesome! She can sing A N Y T H I N G ! I had this laptop in my lap, doing some work, when she started singing and I had to set it aside so I could lean forward on my knees, pat my hands on my thighs, tap my toes and generally do a tired little rock-out. Incredibly enjoyable. She HAS to win this thing. SHe's the only one we're voting for so that we can do our part to prevent one of those tragic, freaky, and wrong dismissals.

And while I'm motivated to talk about reality contests, let me say I'm happy John Ratzenberger had such a good run on Dancing With The Stars. This has been teh first season I've seen where the dancers have been eliminated in a judicious order. If things continue in this manner, Billy Ray will be the next to go (he's been fun to watch, too) and then Ian. The last 3 will be Laila, Apolo, and Joey. I've yet to decide which of the guys I want to end up on top.

Motivated -- that's me! You know what I'm motivated about OTHER than blogging because of the boob tube??? I'm motivated to LOOK GOOD :) OK, to look as good as I can! I just got my first tube (cleanser) of M's preservative-free, Hunza-water skincare line and it is AWWW-some (hear me singing that!) I will be ordering the Serum and Moisturizer at the end of this week and then I will really be getting some good-looking skin on my face. And for a recovering sufferrer of acne for many years, this is uplifting in lots of ways. Even with as much as I've believed in and loved M's nutritional products, I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised at how well the skin stuff works, too!

I'm also motivated to lose weight. Even after just a couple of days of A3, I feel my body trying to kick into its fat-burning mode. My energy is increasing and I feel non-bloaty, for lack of a better term. I'm taking it slow and easy because of breastfeeding but I know I can do this safely and effectively. It's exciting!

Lastly, because of the following adorable pictures, I've been motivated to spend too much time uploading these so that I could share them with you. I hope you like them!

Ain't he darling? 11 weeks old today!

Posing like his Daddy in the middle of his haircut.

Rocky really looks like Henry, doesn't he?

Indie is a NUT! This was taken while we were waiting for Ray's Bible Drill to get started.

And here's Ray during her Bible Drill (The bible verse memory equivelant of a spelling bee.) She did a fantastic job all the way through the District level! We were extremely proud!

I hope you'll leave comments to keep me feeling motivated but I know that the feel-goodness of this week isn't from anything people have been saying TO me but because of what people have been praying FOR me. I've had a couple of specific prayer requests mentioned to a small handful of people this week and I just have to PRAISE GOD for these prayer warriors and for His answers.

11 And you are helping us by praying for us. Then many people will give thanks because God has graciously answered so many prayers for our safety. 2 Corinthians 1:11

I Have Not Disappeared

As you might remember from last year, Ball Season is one heckuva a time for us. We love it but it wipes us out. We have at least 2 if not 3 games or practices on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays and Ray has practice on Fridays. Wednesdays and Saturdays are church, of course, so we are running to do stuff 7 days a week. So maybe you can understand why my blog posts have been rare lately.

I must say that all the running around between ballfields has lots easier this year, though since we're not hustling back and forth to school, too. Homeschooling has been wonderful in so many ways but the lack of driving and rushing to take and pick-up kids from school has probably been the best perk. I know, I know...I should probably be most happy about those "a-ha" moments and the bonding we have experienced as a family BUT if I spoke honestly, I would have to say that the best thing about homeschooling this year has been the fact that we've been able to stay home more! And I'm not the only one who feels this has been a big benefit. The kids love it just as much as I do and we are very grateful for the opportunity we have had to do so.

We're down to the last few weeks of school and it's exciting! We originally thought we could finish with our SATs being the last thing (May 8 & 9), but I don't think we'll be completely done before we take our tests. We'll probably have a week's worth of work after the standardized tests, but we are REALLY close to being done.

I haven't taken any pictures of the kids playing ball yet, but will do that soon. In the meantime, I do have this really awesome picture snapped by my friend Christy who came into town a couple of weeks ago. She's starting a photography biz and is trying to build her portfolio. When she came through town for her brother's wedding, she kindly included us in her stops. She's always impressed me to bits with the photos she has taken of her family and surroundings and I just feel so blessed she snapped some pictures of us! She's only shown me this one that she took but will be sharing more with me soon. I will be showing my faves to y'all, of course!

A Plug For A Great Nappy

The BumGenius 2.0 AIO cloth diaper is on sale. Yeah, it's only $2 off the regular price but since I was gonna buy a couple anyway, it's really nice that I saved $4! I always like to save a buck!

Henry rolled his eyes tonight when I bought these. This cloth diapering thing is something he supports but he doesn't get it. But hey, I'm not gonna complain. He gets and supports all the other "weird" things I do. The birthing and breastfeeding and Mannatech stuff all makes sense to him so I'm not gonna pester him with all the reasons I think cloth is so awesome.

Yes, CD'ing takes about 5 minutes longer per change and requires a few extra loads of laundry each week but knowing that his little hiney is covered in soft cotton (that doesn't have chemicals that might keep me from having grandchildren one day) makes it allllllll worth it.

I mean, just take a look at this little fella... He definitely deserves it!

Continuing Penn State Info

Since I already posted one bit of information about Penn State's breastfeeding advocacy, I thought I'd go ahead and post this second article to showcase what a great job they are doing! I figure it might help their google ranking :)

Priorities

Priority lists. I have two of them and they are broken down by two categories. Things I can do while holding Captain and things I can do quickly before Captain wakes up.

And I'm so behind that I struggle with what order to put things on these lists. Too many things are fighting for that top spot.

Today, menu and grocery-list-making was at the top of the list and checking them off the list took FOREVER. The actual shopping time had toget squished in, too. Not particularly fun.

Poor Indie has a bazillion school things she's waiting for me to grade. I feel bad about that. Ray has been easier to keep up-to-date with because she does her work on the laptop and I can nurse Captain and check her work all at the same time. Indie does her work on a desktop that isn't easy to sit at while I have Captain in my lap. Rocky is mostly up-to-date because his work is all in workbooks so we cuddle together anywhere to go over it. Today's schoolwork with him was done on my bed. He-Man brought his "work" to do on my bed today, too.

Yes, we kinda enjoyed doing school with a warm blanket on this cold APRIL day.

I just keep reminding myself that next school year will be very different. And we only have a few more days to struggle through for this year!

I wish I had Hiro's superpowers and could freeze time. If only things would just wait a minute, I might be able to catch up.

Blogging (reading & writing) is on both versions of the late-night to-do lists. Right now I'm checking off things from the "while I hold Captain" list. I do believe the rest of today's items will have to wait another day or more.

My Poor Mush Brain

I'm proud to say that not much brings me to tears these days. I'm especially proud that I can say that while still in a post-partum period. But I confess that I nearly lost it today.

There one thing that makes me more nauseated than wasting time is wasting money and today I thought I had done both through a terrible and embarrassing brain malfunction. Today was the last day I could order the SATs for the girls to be tested next month. I called the number, spoke with a lady that was a little "hmph" about me waiting until the last minute. I placed the order for a 2nd and 4th grade test. She said something like, "Do I have permission to confirm this order? Once submitted, it cannot be changed." I said, "Yes."

But did you catch the mistake? My girls are in 3rd and 5th grades! Not 2nd and 4th!!! And when we were doing the order she said things like, "2nd grade Spring, 3rd grade Fall." And I followed-up with, "Yes."

After giving my debit card information and getting an order confirmation number, I hung up the phone. And by God's mercy, I realized my mistake.

My eyes burned with near tears. NEAR. I tried to remain calm. Maybe there's still time to correct the error.

And thankfully there was. It took several minutes to cancel the previous order and place a new one but, PRAISE GOD, the error was corrected. Of course, I allowed Captain to fuss in the background, ever so slightly, as I used him and my hormonal mushbrain, to be part of my stupidity alibi.

The time wasted wasn't nearly as disgusting as the 88 bucks that might have been thrown down the toilet. Oh how I wish 88 bucks wasn't a big deal but it SO is.

Well, the Captain is really needing me now. I'll post about my struggles with priorities later.

Yeah, I'm Signed Up With Google Alerts

So you might be getting links to more things in the future. I'm only being alerted for "Mannatech" "midwife" and "breastfeeding" right now but I'm finding this feature so neat that I might add more things soon!

Here's today's link to a Mannatech news blurb.

Mannatech's awesome :)

Go Penn State!

Yeah, it's an odd thing for this Bama fan to praise the Nittany Lions but I'm cheering for their research department to reach people about the importance of breastfeeding. Here's an article with a reminder of some of the merits of breastfeeding and some ponderings as to why so few American women are choosing not to take advantage of these health benefits.

Captain's Cool Clothes

Captain looked like a big kid this past Sunday night when we ROCKED OUT IN THE RAIN at the tobyMac concert. It was absolutely AWESOME! Captain slept through it all, though.

Even the "BOOMING OUT THE STEREO SYSTEM!"

Everyone needs to own a tobyMac CD. Everyone.

In fact, he'll be in Tuscumbia on Saturday and anyone who can make it to the show, totally should do it. It honestly "rocked the mic for fun." It was the most rockin' worship I have ever experienced.

That Feeling At The End Of A Day

I was watching some parents who were bringing their children to ball practice today. They were in their work clothes and were setting up their folding chairs to just chill out for a while. I had a slight and distant memory of that feeling of relief and accomplishment that I used to get when leaving work for the day or finishing a day of classes in college, or even in high school. It was such a nice feeling of accomplishing a hard day's work and taking a moment to relax at the end of it.

But when I was watching someone else have that experience today, I realized that I was still smack-dab in the middle of my hard day's work.

Times like right now are my "chilling out" times but even now, I don't feel very accomplished.

I have to get up early in the morning. I gotta be out the door for a very important committee meeting on the midwifery bill. We're counting it as a school day of course but we need to be downtown even earlier than last week. I definitely appreciate not having to be anywhere in the mornings since we've been homeschooling.

Before I close, a quick little recap of a visit to the pediatrician for well check-ups. Captain, at 7 weeks old, weighs 11 pounds and 1 ounce. He is "struggling" with baby acne and cradle cap but now that I have a few questions answered about it, I will be treating it with a Mannatech approach. I've honestly been just waiting for it to go away on its own but I think I'm ready to be a little more proactive.

He-Man went for his 4-year checkup and he's doing great! His cholesterol (when did they start checking cholesterol in children??) is 113. I didn't know what that meant in a 4 year old but apparently it is excellent. He's in a low percentile for his height but if anyone DARES to make fun of him he can ALWAYS get back at them about having a good cholesterol level!

He was asked if he knew how to count to 10 and if he could dress himself. It's really hard to not turn this into a bragging time about how he can name all the capitals of United States :)

Henry finally finished up with the Passion Play at the church last night. When he got home, he finally got the relief he had been wanting for several weeks now. He got a haircut and shave. Here are fun pics. I think you will laugh:

Bugs Bunny, Bugs Bunny, RAH RAH RAH!

The reason I use the above title is because I just finished thinking the phrase that comes beforehand. Yup, a long post just got wiped out when I hit "publish" and "Fricka Fracka Firecracker" is kinda my way of not using vulgar language.

What was deleted?

A much-too-descriptive list of why this week is wearing me out. So now you get the slimmed down version:
Previously - Monday - School (We've completed 142 out of the 170 days that are required) and Bible Study. Tuesday - "Holiday" (He-Man turned 4 and Henry took us all to the Galleria.) Today - State House (details below) & church (started back teaching the class I was teaching before Captain was born.) Tomorrow - State House again and all 3 children have ball practice. Friday - pre-scheduled field trip with other homeschoolers to the Biscuit Stadium. Saturday - All 3 ball practice and a Health Fair. Sunday - Church and Toby Mac Concert (Pray rain comes before or after but not during because it's at an amphitheater!)

The following looks long at a glance but it's all copy/pasted/combined from emails floating around an email list I'm on. This is in reference to the public hearing at the State House today regarding HB199 which seeks to legalize and regulate Certified Professional Midwives in Alabama. It was an AWESOME event. I'm just too tired to re-cap myself so I thought I'd let you see what others wrote.

In a nut shell we PACKED the room by 9:30 with standing room only after that!!! It was a pleasure to witness such well-prepared, articulate speakers,
and I am not talking about the opposing side!!

The three "fors" gave compelling testimony -- a skillful blend of
(conscientiously limited) endearing, emotional testimony with bold,
factual evidence. I was impressed with the grace and professionalism that each
possessed and I think they are all a credit to the women of Alabama.
I would love to be able to give a description of their testimony, but
I am afraid I would not do them justice, so I will only say that they
were informative, effective and befitting of the role as our
repesentatives.

Ida, from NARM was wonderful with being able to answer all of the Committee's questions on ceritifcation/accredidation, statistics, and how midwifery programs are working in the other 42 states that have midwives. I would have been impressed even if she had been on the other side. My favorite quote from her was, "If you want to lower your infant mortality rates, stop sending your healthy moms and infants to other states to get their birth certificates."

The three "againsts" seemed to not know much beyond their scripted
diatribes about how allowing midwives to operate would be akin to
dooming the entire society of Alabama to medieval-like conditions.
According to the opposition, women should be forcibly made to give
birth in hospitals (because the furtherance of the human race is at
stake here!?!?).

The first doctor who spoke gave a brief summary of statistics, all of
which were eventually "debunked" so to speak, after it was revealed
that the statistics mainly reflected a high mortality rate throughout
the "black belt" and amongst women who take illicit drugs during
pregnancy. He even admitted that the other states with midwifery programs had lower infant and maternal mortality rates but said, (paraphrase)"There's no evidence that those states have lower death rates just because they use midwives."

The second doctor who spoke puts childbirth in the same category with pneumonia and heart disease. To paraphrase, he said something like, "Yes, childbirth is natural, but so is pneumonia, heart attack..." and something else I don't recall.
Er, call me crazy but someone who thinks pregnancy should be placed
on a list of "pathologies" should not be representing women's
interests.

The third to speak against it was a nurse-midwife and after some
confusion about which side she was on, she went on to explain her
opposition. To be honest, I quit listening about this point, but I
did catch on that two of her primary objections were these: NO births
should be in the home, citing that too much can go wrong; and that
CPM's lack the intensive nursing training that she equates with being
able to handle "any" (presumably inevitable) emergency.

Let me share the experience that best sums up the way the hearing went. I think this illustrates the mood of the hearing, the effectiveness
of our speakers, and the faulty logic used by the opposition.
At the hearing, a 50-ish, professional looking man asks to sit down
in the chair available next to me. We strike up a conversation. He
is a pediatrician prepared to speak in opposition to the bill and I
politely addressed some of his concerns (he had some
misconceptions). He spoke to me afterwards,(quote) "you know, this
really isn't as straightforward as I thought- and it (midwifery)
isn't as dangerous (or something like that) like the medical side
presents... (and still quoting) "I am really glad that I didn't have
a chance to speak out in opposition. Can you send me more
information?" He hands me his card- not only is he a pediatrician
bI tut he is xxxxxxx.

Hearing the well-versed testimony in support and the not-so-
articulate and lacking in data of those opposed really gave him
something to think about.

I think that many folks who went in there thinking they were opposed
to this left feeling like he did- wanting more information- and
entertaining the idea that this might not be such a bad thing for
mamas and babies afterall.

This Is A big Week For Midwives & Alabama

Finally, the wheels are turning to make some changes in the lawbooks regarding homebirth midwives who want to attend homebirths in Alabama.

The Birmingham News had this great article on the front page of their paper today! Perfect timing!

Be sure to look at the photo gallery (in left sidebar of the newspaper website.) This picture is #8 in the gallery. It's the sign posted for parents who are left to bond with their baby at the Birth House in Ardmore, Tennessee, where many Alabama women travel to give birth in a home setting with midwives.

He-Man & The Cow

He-Man's turning four on Tuesday. I just can't believe it!

After waiting until nearly the last-minute to get plans firmed (because we had to wait for ball-practice schedules to be given out) we finally arranged for a little party at our favorite stop, Chick-Fil-A. Since we have tons of built-in friends in the shape of brothers, sisters, and cousins, we told He-Man he could invite 4 non-blood-relative friends to the party (we said 4 because he's 4, ya know?)(pic=He-Man w/Feff)

Anyway, it was a packed house but lots of fun. It was so nice having everything NOT at home :) Don't get me wrong, I really would like to be hospitable but with ball-season gearing up and of course with this Captain of ours, it was really nice to just feed folks where food is already prepared.

(pic=Brosnan & Ray)He-Man was so darling about all of his family, friends, and gifts. I was so happy for him today. And of course he makes us so happy EVERY day.

Cute sidenote about my PaPaul (not to be confused with Pa Gardener whom Uma renamed PaPa-Razzi today! LOL) - I don't think my PaPaul knew that I was TRYING to be stylish by having my tshirts layered. You know, the look where the under shirt is seen just below the top shirt? Well, my sweet grandfather told me I needed to pull my shirt down and I'm guessing he was thinking I didn't mean to show the undershirt?? Anyway, I found it very sweet. Of course, he might have just thought I was letting myself go with these post-baby-hormone-sweats and flabby mid-section. Or he might just think all of these kids have made me a little cuckoo! I can't imagine what would make him think that, though!

Finally, We Caught A Smile!

It took tons of tries but Ray finally caught Captain with a smile for the camera!

One Of The Coolest Things...

A Team Mannatecher is competing on Dancing With The Stars in Australia!!

As a huge fan of both of these things, I find it incredibly cool that they have meshed!

The Non-Scheduled Schedule

Since I rarely use the word "scheduling" when talking about an infant, for fear of someone thinking I follow or promote Ezzo's teachings, I will say that today was a good day in the "things-working-out-in-a-predictable-sort-of-way" department.

Captain and I went to Sunday morning services for the first time since his birth. We made it pretty much on time and if we didn't have such a long hallway to walk down (where we got stopped by lots of oohs and ahhs of wanting to see this new little dude) we would have totally made it into the sanctuary on time. We had hoped to make it early enough for Henry to sing in the choir but I messed that up by not being happy with my first outfit at home.

It was the being up early and at a scheduled time that was a big goal for today. I needed to let Captain nurse and then had to get up and showered before Henry needed to get up and showered, so that he could stay in the bed and keep our 1-month-old cozy and asleep.

After getting mostly ready, and getting the older kids awake and taking care of themselves, I was able to get my hair dried before the Captain woke up and was ready to nurse again. If I fit into my nicer clothes a little better, and if I had some more clothing articles that allowed for discreet nursing, I would have been ready in time to get Henry out the door earlier but it was the lack of trying on my choices last night that caused the blip in our time. But I must give a shout-out to the girls for helping entertain and even finish dressing Captain while Henry and I finished with our primping.

At church, Captain stayed quiet and dozed off and on during the whole service. He didn't even make one of those terribly embarrassing poop sounds! And he looked so cute the whole time, too! He was wearing a darling little cashmere jumper and would smile at me whenever he opened his eyes to see where he was...I wish I could have taken his picture!

In Sunday School (or as the current trend is turning, "Small Group") he was getting a little cranky so I nursed him. I was so pleased that no one (especially the teacher) seemed to think a thing about it. Of course, the seating arrangement was such that it's possible no one even knew I was nursing him but I think most did.

So he did GREAT on his first day at Sunday church (he's been on Wednesdays a couple of times so far.) If he seems to stick with this "routine" (ick word) it won't be long before I will be able to let the nursery keep him during Sunday School. I will give it a few more weeks to work him (and me) into it, though.

After church we went to the Trippes for lunch and visiting with some of the Trippe family that came in from out of town. I'll try to post pictures tomorrow.

Since Mama Gardener emailed me some pictures from yesterday's visit at her house, I will post some of those today. The fishing pictures are from a morning trip down to the neighborhood pond where Leland has been wanting to go fishing with Papa Gardener for a while. All of the kids caught 2 fish (except for Rocky who was still camping with Henry at the time) and He-Man was the winner of "biggest fish."

Here are some cute pictures of Captain and his admirers from yesterday, too.

Stalling My Bedtime

We're home after visiting with the Gardeners for a little while. Henry & Rocky are camping out (just one night) in the COLD and the rest of us are ready for them to be home. Even the dog knows they're not here. I am trying to make myself very tired before turning off all the lights because I don't want to lie awake for any length of time. Lying awake in a house without Henry makes my mind wander too much and I'd much rather just go to sleep the second my head hits the pillow.

Lucky You gets the benefit of my attempts to stall bedtime.

The house is a WRECK! It's so bad that if someone was in an auto accident, they could call their insurance agent and say, "I had a Stacy's house!"

Sigh...

I'm actually typing with two hands, tonight. Captain is sleeping soundly in the bed beside me and I'm staying up way too late with this laptop going through some email and, of course, blogging.

I'm not quite back to perfectly streamlined thought patterns so you'll have to continue muddling through random statements about the things going on 'round here for a little while.

You know I've mentioned the coolness of answered prayers numerous times before but let me just say it again. GOD ANSWERS PRAYERS! Remember that missing glove & helmet from a couple of days ago? Well, Henry and I (and probably the kids) prayed for the discovery of their location. We were hanging on to the hope that someone we knew picked them up from the ballfield and was going to get them back to us but after several days passed, we got discouraged. Well, we shouldn't have given up any hope because on Wednesday afternoon, before going to church, I got a call on my cell phone from a friend saying that a mutual friend had picked up Rocky's stuff and gotten it to her to give it to us! When we got to church that night, his helmet, glove, hat (that we didn't realize was missing) and Indie's shoes (that we thought were lost in a separate incident) were returned to us!! I can't tell you how good that felt. I know it might have been silly to be so upset about that equipment being gone but it was truly heart-wrenching. So we PRAISE GOD AGAIN for answering our prayers!!

OK, let's see...what else to blab about? Oh, the weight thing. Blech. I am at the stage where my belly is super-flabby and it just disgusts me. I was much happier with my body a couple of weeks ago when there was still some relative firmness (thanks to not completely-shrunken and re-positioned internal organs) but now that everything on the inside has toned up and squished back to its rightful place, the fat and skin are just reminders that I am SO much a Mom.

So, I have actually exercised two days. I've DVR'ed several episodes of "All-Star Workout" from FITv and have worked through MOST of it. Both exercise sessions were cut short because of a needy baby (I apparently have poor timing of when to start trying to exercise) but I think they were a good start.

I am trying to be more dilligent with my phytosterols to help me fight off the chocolate cravings but I've gotten slack on some days just from sheer busyness. I hope to keep going with the exercise thing but am aiming to start back with A3 when Captain gets about 4 or 5 months old. I'm waiting until that age because that's about when I remember all the other children became pretty predictable with a routine and became a little "easier" (for lack of a better term.) Since I believe with all my heart that A3 will be fine for me to take while nursing (doing own research and speaking with others who have looked into it as well) I'd still like to wait until that time so that I don't falsely accuse the supplement of any of Captain's frequent behavior changes. After the 4 or 5 month mark, I'll be better able to fairly judge how he reacts to me using it.

And I am very much looking forward to giving it another go. I had actually started the product for one month before I found out I was pregnant with Captain and REALLY liked it. So I'm trying to be patient with my body and remember that this fluffiness is just a sign that I have been blessed beyond measure and that if I can hang in there for a few more months, then maybe I can start to see myself fitting back into normal clothes.
